*I was kindly invited to an evening to learn about chalk painting with Grand Illusions but all opinion are my own* I have a little secret. I have always wanted to be able to take some of the older furniture we own (and some of that has been around since we got married, which is […]READ MORE
*this is a collaborative post* (Image source) It’s often easy to forget just how far services, technology and social change has shaped our world in the last twenty years. We are truly beginning to live in the future. Manned flights to Mars are starting to be spoken of as more of a possibility, wireless devices […]READ MORE
I am not doing the usual Christmas gift guides this year, as a blogger I have decided to break with tradition and do something a little different. I am, instead, featuring some lovely small businesses that I think make items that would be perfect if you are looking to support small businesses this Christmas or […]READ MORE
In January of this year, I gave up meat. Well, actually it was almost February, but for most of January I hadn’t eaten much meat. I caused alarm on Facebook by sharing my new quasi vegetarian status and I have shared a few posts about giving up meat. I have eaten meat occasionally when I […]READ MORE
Hooray, it’s December, and we can finally talk about Christmas without people being totally Bah Humbug! This is our weekly update, mostly for the grandparents so they can keep up with our antics and life. As usual cats, chaos, cake and coffee… We have been able to watch the kids in their end of term […]READ MORE
It’s beginning to look at lot like Christmas… Are you humming the song yet? This is not my garden, I wish it was! (shared with permission though!)READ MORE
Life has been pretty tough for us & me, over the past few months. Adulting, to coin a social media popular word, can be pretty challenging and sometimes life can throw things at you that you have to handle, even when you don’t want to. I have shared a fair bit about my mental health, […]READ MORE
*this is a review post, we were kindly sent some items to review and share about but all opinions are my own* Swimming has always been something that I have felt is an important life skill. Before I even had children I knew that I wanted them to learn to swim, as early as possible, […]READ MORE
Weekly therapy is looming. This afternoon, I get 50 minutes to disgorge the messy contents of my head and see if the jumble that is my anxiety and what’s going on in my life can be made sense of, in any shape or form. I am tired and I don’t really want to go, but […]READ MORE
*this is a collaborative post, that we hope contains some helpful tips and ideas* When the winter season kicks in, the bathroom is usually one of the first rooms of the house to feel it. You know how it is – that jolt of you feel when your feet touch the cold bathroom tiles when […]READ MORE

Welcome to the Mad House. I originally started this blog, in a blur of sleep deprivation, to get my thoughts and feelings down somewhere, on parenting, second time round, with a baby that had major sleep issues (and not just normal ones) but it has grown and grown. We are now well into our fifth year at the Mad House and you will find blog posts on anything from gardening, to politics, with lots of ramblings on parenting, and also about living with food intolerances. I blog about cows milk and gluten free cooking too.
