Want to serve some baked goods for a person with a dairy or gluten intolerance or allergy? Look no further… This is my favourite chocolate brownie recipe, with the added bonus of being dairy and gluten free, and you cannot tell when you eat them, that they are not made with wheat flour. LSH loves them, […]READ MORE
LSH and I went to Osterley House, in Hounslow, South West London, last Friday, for a grown up tea and some time together. We thoroughly enjoyed the visit. I was particularly taken with the very delicate looking Chinese antiques in the house, and this hand made, over 400 years old, boat, with actual people inside, […]READ MORE
This blog post’s alternative title is “if you have a baby, don’t ever leave the house without a spare nappy.” Like, me you might live to regret that… One of the basic rules of parenting a baby or toddler still in nappies, is that if you are leaving the house, for a trip out, you […]READ MORE
LSH took this photo at the park last week, on a day of glorious sunshine. I wasn’t there, so have no idea what was being said, between these two as they played. Give me some ideas? Click on the linky, or visit the Mammasaurus blog to join in and see other Sat CapsREAD MORE
So, my 6 year old, known here as Big Girl, decided she wanted to write a blog post, by herself, to tell you a bit more about her, in her own words. I helped her with some of the spelling and a little bit with the typing, and she read it all through, did her […]READ MORE
We drag ourselves out of bed, early every Saturday morning, so Big Girl can go to her swimming lesson. She loves it, she is getting pretty good at it, and it is worth the early start. I managed to get a photo of her, that LSH took this week. I think learning to swim is […]READ MORE
I struggle with mild allergies. I am allergic to cats (ironic, really given we have two, and one that sheds fur like no other cat I have ever seen, being half Persian in origin) and I also struggle with hay fever, and seasonal allergies. I don’t like taking standard anti-histamines or anti allergy medication, and […]READ MORE
This week, I am taking a week off, and have delegated some of the blog work to the other members of the Mad House of Cats and Babies. LSH is writing the Magic Moments post this week, so I will hand over to him and let him loose…. Well it is a rare privilege indeed to […]READ MORE
I made Thai Green Curry, this weekend. I make it often, actually. It is one of our favourites, and I find easy, and compatible with most meats (chicken, pork, beef, or vegetables) and if I make a milder version, the children love it, and I think we probably own the only Thai Green curry loving […]READ MORE

Welcome to the Mad House. I originally started this blog, in a blur of sleep deprivation, to get my thoughts and feelings down somewhere, on parenting, second time round, with a baby that had major sleep issues (and not just normal ones) but it has grown and grown. We are now well into our fifth year at the Mad House and you will find blog posts on anything from gardening, to politics, with lots of ramblings on parenting, and also about living with food intolerances. I blog about cows milk and gluten free cooking too.
