The toaster oven – not just a bit of humble kitchen gadgetry…

Spread the love

Our family is busy. Life is always in the go for us and we try and stay as on top of things as we can, to keep life running smoothly. Things like meal planning and feeding my family are on the top of my list when I sit down each week to sort out our schedules.

I love cooking and feeding people and generally happy when I am pottering about in the kitchen, but I also like convenience and the ability to get things done in time or at the last minute when plans change and I’m also known for my love of kitchen gadgetry and for things that make my life easier.

So, the Husband didn’t even raise an eyebrow when I told him recently that I want to add a toaster oven to our kitchen, and that if he wanted to add it to my Christmas present list, I wouldn’t be offended (I know some people don’t like getting domestic items for gifts, but I’m not one of those!)

The toaster oven started out in 1955 as a somewhat humble addition to kitchens but now is one of those gadgets that can really be a help when you have food to prepare and cook, or even reheat. I’m not just talking about making more than a couple of slices of toast either.  You can steam, bake & roast in them and they’re convenient for adding to your cooking prep when you don’t want to use your main oven, or need extra cooking capacity or even if you don’t have an oven. We  currently don’t have a microwave oven so I don’t have to worry about it taking up space, and because it has more functionality that a basic microwave, it’s definitely more useful for us as a family. I’ve done a fair bit of looking into how much we will use one, and if it is worth it and came to the conclusion that it will. It will also be handy for cooking smaller portions of food and day to day convenience, and given that we only have a very basic slice toaster at the moment which does two slices of bread at a time and the husband is always complaining we need a bigger toaster, this will be perfect as of course, we can make quite a few slices of toast in one go, which will keep him happy!

So, I’m adding a toaster oven to my Christmas wish list and I’ve been a pretty good girl this year, so hopefully Father Christmas will come good and deliver… Not sure if it will fit in my Christmas stocking though! ?
