The lovely Monkey & Mouse have shared so now it is our turn…

My daughter was born just after Christmas, so was almost one years old, for her first Christmas as a family. She was too little to really understand what Santa or Father Christmas was, but got plenty of presents and was thoroughly spoiled by friends and family. She was the first Grandchild on either side of the family, so it was a big deal. Lots of presents and fuss. It was fun, but slightly overwhelming.

Unfortunately, she was also unwell for her first Christmas. I had just returned to work, and she had started childcare with a local childminder, and she seemed to pick up every single germ going, and sadly, was a very sniffly, grumpy baby, that day. She did perk up to enjoy opening presents, and being cuddled by her beloved Granddad and her uncles and aunt, but it was not exactly the day we had anticipated and she spent a fair amount of time sleeping on me, being a bit clingy. Thankfully my family are all very hands on and helped out with Christmas dinner and clearing up, and taking her for a cuddle to relieve me. She did enjoy her Christmas dinner, though and thoroughly relished in being fed chocolate buttons by her Granddad when Mummy wasn’t looking.

One of the things i have learned as a parent is that special events and occasions with children sometimes don’t turn out as anticipated or planned and you have to go with it, and have a back up in mind. Sometimes things like illness will throw you a curve ball.

We did have a lovely first Christmas, though and I still get all teary looking at those photos, and realizing that she isn’t so tiny any more and actually knows that Santa is really Mum & Dad, although she still plays along for her brother who hasn’t figured that out yet. (she will be all embarrassed and say “Oh mum, you are getting soppy again!”)

And now hop along to Cookies & Cwtches s to find out what they are sharing about the first year Santa came…

My little one was a bit under the weather too on our first Christmas together but we still found a way to have a good time. So many happy memories, hey. Lots more photos to take this year and wishing you all a fab day tomorrow and beyond.
