Name 3 Things – What’s unusual about you?

Spread the love

I thought it would be fun to start of 2015 with a light hearted (most of the time) linky or blog sharing attempt. Anyone can join in and if you don’t have a blog you can share on your Facebook or social media instead.

The rules are simple and few:

I will come up with a suggested theme for the week and name my own three things within that theme, then I will post and share. I might tag a few people too to get things going. You do the same, on whatever platform you want. You can add your link at the bottom to you page or blog post. Name 3 things?

This week, the challenge is to name 3 things about yourself that might be surprising, unusual, or not really known about. It can be anything from the tattoo you don’t show people to something you have done or been, that might be that little bit different.

Name 3 Things…….?

Here are mine:

1. I am left handed, but actually only write and cast on to knit, with my left hand, I do everything else with my right hand. I think it’s partly because when I was at school, as a very young child being left handed was still heavily frowned upon, and I was encouraged not to use my left hand, if I could, although I did persist on writing with my left hand. I cannot use left handed scissors at all. I don’t think this makes me ambidextrous, because I cannot write with my right hand.

2. I have something called Hyper Mobile Joint Syndrome. This was actually only recently diagnosed, but I have been “double jointed” all my life, I can bend all my fingers back, in unnatural positions, bend my body into various ridiculous positions, despite my age and having had two babies, and can dislocate my own jaw and click it back into place (very unattractive, not a party trick for anyone squeamish!) It comes with some down sides, in that it would appear to be something that causes me some health issues, and I had no idea that being able to click my fingers, wrap my feet round my neck, and touch my toes with my nose was anything other than a bit of a circus trick I was able to do. No, there are no photos of me doing any of those things, you will just have to take my word for it! 😉

3. I am severely allergic to most antibiotics. This is ok for normal, every day life, but if I ever need antibiotics for a serious infection, it takes a lot of organising to find one that won’t make me seriously ill or potentially send me into a life threatening anaphylaxis. When I was working as a nurse, I had to wear two pairs of gloves to even make up and give basic antibiotics, and even now, I have to wear gloves and be super careful if my children need them (thankfully, this is rare) and I carry an Epipen and a warning necklace, so that if I ever have to go to hospital and can’t tell the medical staff my issue, they know, so they don’t pump me full of lovely penicillin that might kill me! I hope we never do actually get hit with a plague outbreak or some serious germ war hits us, because I will be utterly stuffed! When I was looking at having a c-section during my labour with Big Girl, (because we were both becoming unwell) they had to order some special antibiotics and have them brought in from another hospital pharmacy. We caused a lot of concern and chaos!

So that’s me… feel free to share yours, here via a blog post, or on Facebook and link up! Let other people know as well, if they would like to join in…

  1. I can’t believe being left-handed used to be frowned upon it’s not like you can help it! Unfortunately I’m just cack-handed! 😉
