Welcome to my Friday’s Rants from the Soap Box in my Living Room. A small space in the week where I can have a chunter about things that have made me twitch with annoyance or made me question if the world has gone mad or not….

I also  linked up with MummyBarrow for her Ranty Friday. You can find her blog and link up here if you’d like to join in. A good rant can be therapeutic.

Hiccups? What are they? What is the point of them? Why do we get them? Some say they are the vestiges of an ancient body reflex action to prevent fluids being aspirated into our lungs, or a reflex that babies learn in the womb, to help them with breathing when they are born, that just stays with us…

WHATEVER! I HATE them. I seem to start a day, getting hiccups, then they continue randomly throughout the day. I am one of those unfortunate people who hiccup very loudly, and in a very un lady like, unattractive manner, and sound, as my children charmingly put it, like a “cross old frog” when they strike me. Nothing I can do, will ease them, or make them discreet or quiet, until they eventually subside, on their own, for a while, only to return, usually at a most inconvenient time. They also hurt, and take ages to go away. I have had this issue all of my life. It caused much amusement at school, and I have had to walk out of lectures and classes, due to a fit of the hiccups being so loud, that I was causing a disturbance.

They are annoying, uncomfortable, and I feel like crawling under a rock, when they manifest…I am glad that they amuse other people, but frankly, hiccups can bog off!

Now I have got that off my sounding like an old bloke who has had 10 pints and is hiccuping drunkenly on his way home from the pub, chest… I am off to check out what MummyBarrow has to say this week on her Ranty Friday post. Have a gander, why not join in?
