Welcome to my Friday’s Rants from the Soap Box in my Living Room. A small space in the week where I can have a chunter about things that have made me twitch with annoyance or made me question if the world has gone mad or not….
I also  linked up with MummyBarrow for her Ranty Friday. You can find her blog and link up here if you’d like to join in. A good rant can be therapeutic. Click on the link at the end to join in!

This week, I am ranting about something utterly disgusting. You will be pleased to know, that there are no photos for this rant, I don’t think it is necessary, and this is not that kind of blog… read on to see what I mean! 😉

My rant, is about people, men, basically, who feel that it is ok to urinate, in public, in spaces that other people use.

Why is it ok for a man to urinate in a lift, in the middle of the day? It was a lift, in a car park, in the local shopping centre, but really, could he not have waited or found a public toilet? I had to get in the lift, with my pushchair, and try to avoid the puddle of urine, that had been left there. I strongly suspect it was the man who left the lift as the doors opened for me, because he was fiddling with his trouser zip and when I made some noises of disgust, scuttled off, looking guilty. I did of course, complain to the car park management, who assured me it would be cleaned up.

But, this is the 3rd time this week, that I have seen or been exposed to someone decided to relieve themselves in a public place, when there is access to public toilets, locally.

I was waiting outside Waitrose, in Richmond at 8pm on MOnday night, at the bus stop, when a man, in his 30’s, I think, came along, walked past the bus stop, to the corner, then proceeded to unzip and let flow… Really?? In front of everyone, against a wall, next to a public and very busy bus stop. There are public toilets outside and inside Waitrose, and in the pub next to Waitrose, and a public toilet at the train station. Yes, I suppose we could have called the police, but by the time they had arrived, he would have been long gone, and I’d like to think our local plod have better things to be doing, than dealing with inconsiderate idiots who think it’s ok to pee wherever they want!

That’s not the last incident, unfortunately. Last week, I happened to notice, after my swimming session, as I was getting changed, that the woman in the cubicle next to me, was complaining about something. Someone, it would seem had chosen to pee in the corner of the cubicle, I assume trying to aim for the drain, there, but they had missed and urine was all over the floor of the cubicle and spreading to mine. It COULD have been a parent, allowing a small child to pee, if they were desperate, but again, there are plenty of toilets, within a metre or so reach of the cubicles. Letting a child pee on the floor of the swimming pool changing room is disgusting, and if it was an adult, then it is reprehensible and revolting.

Why do people think this is ok? Urine is a bodily fluid, it can pose a health hazard, and it is generally unpleasant for anyone to have to be exposed to someone else’s.

So, if you are reading this blog and feel it is ok to whizz where you want to  (and I am assuming most people who do this are men, because personally, as a women, taking a pee in a public place is  not exactly easy, I can’t see many women eagerly deciding to pee in public) then STOP IT! It’s horrible, unpleasant, unhygienic, and unless you are a small potty training child, or  have no bladder control and are miles away from a loo, totally unnecessary.

Here endeth my rant for the week! Thanks for reading, don’t forget to click on the linky and find some more rants and join in, if you have something you need to get off your chest!

  1. EWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW. (excuse the capitals, I feel this calls for it). I am known to allow my son to relieve himself behind a tree in the middle of nowhere but unless absolutely absolutely there’s going to be a puddle on the floor necessary we always go to the toilet. I will admit leaving it so long with my daughter and telling her not to make a fuss, there were some wet knickers (bad mother). But in lifts, stairwells, bus stops, streets, well, practically everywhere, I join you on that soap box and say, No! Stop it, please.

I don’t have an issue with kids, specially when they are desperate, but I do think grown men should know better! 🙂

  2. I’m sorry, but this made me giggle a bit! Only because it reminded me of a story my father told me about his cousin getting booked twice for weeing in public when he was drunk. I’ll spare you the details, but he told the Cardiff judge that it was cheaper to get caught in Merthyr when asked what he had to say for himself.

I can kind of get, when you are drunk, that your inhibitions and sense of where is right to take a pee, are a bit squiffy, and did laugh at your story about your family member, but people peeing in a swimming room changing room or in a busy lift during the day, really did make me ranty! 🙂

    oh my god, filthy.

    NO excuse for this

    Ever

  4. I think this is totally abhorrent – utterly and absolutely. What would men say if women squatted in the middle of the street and did their business?! More to the point though it is totally unhygienic. What is wrong with people?! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo x

I know. I guess if someone was very drunk, or had mental health issues, they might (I have seen this, when I worked in MH as a student) but I cannot imagine, just taking a pee, in the middle of a busy street, outside a supermarket, next to a bus stop! 😮

Why do people do this, it really is vile! I feel your pain, some people are yucky!
